Largest District In State Facing Financial, Other Challenges
Miles To Run For San Juan School Board
Larry Miles has announced that he will seek election to the San Juan School District Board of Trustees. It is expected that the San Juan School Board will have three vacancies in the November election.
Larry has already been endorsed by the San Juan School District Teacher’s Association, and he hopes to reprise the support he enjoyed in the 2000, campaign when he was endorsed by a host of business and labor groups.
The school district has suffered through a challenging year, including closing of four elementary schools, and is currently facing a $15 million deficit for 2005, with contract talks underway with various employee groups.
"While things are difficult for the District, I believe good leadership is critical to its future," Miles said. I would like to do what I can to help."
Larry is deeply committed to the public school system. Larry’s two kids, Jonathan and Katherine, both went through the San Juan School system. Support for the public school system runs deep in

Trustees of the San Juan School District typically meet twice a month in the evenings, and have policy responsibilities for over 89 schools, including K-12, charter schools, and adult education. It is anticipated that the campaign will cost over $50,000. Contributions can be sent to Friends of Larry Miles ’04, 3838 Watt Ave., Suite 301, Sacramento, Ca., 95821.
